I’m Huachao Ruan—an artist, architectural designer, MEP engineer, and California licensed contractor based in Roseville.
Through design-build work, I connect architectural thinking, HVACR and plumbing design, and hands-on construction. Alongside my professional practice, I continue to explore space and structure through architecture studies.

Based in Roseville, California
I’m Huachao Ruan, an artist, architectural designer, MEP engineer, and California licensed contractor based in Roseville, California.
My design-build work connects art, architectural design, building systems, and construction. With 15 years of hands-on experience in HVACR, plumbing, and construction, I consider both the design intent and the work required on site. I value clear drawings, practical coordination, and careful execution, from the initial design discussion through installation and inspection.
Since November 2022, I have owned Ruan Heating, Air & Plumbing. My work includes HVACR and plumbing design, estimating, installation, and service, together with framing and remodeling. I coordinate schedules, subcontractors, permitting, and inspections, working through the practical details that connect plans with installation. My practice serves residential and commercial projects in Sacramento and Roseville.
Art remains an active part of my practice. I studied Chinese painting at Shanghai Normal University and environmental art design at Tongji University between 2004 and 2008. My work has been selected for exhibitions in Shanghai and Milan. Painting continues to inform how I think about composition, material, urban life, and the character of a place.
I am pursuing a Master of Architecture at Academy of Art University, with studies spanning 2025–2028, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology at ECPI University. Both degrees are in progress. I hold an NCARB Record and am working through the Architectural Experience Program. My tools include Rhino, Grasshopper, and AutoCAD; I am currently learning Revit. I also hold EPA Section 608 Universal Technician certification.
